Youth Skills Development Connecting K-12 to Careers

Through K-12 education and career readiness initiatives, Workforce is dedicated to equipping all students with the knowledge, skills, competence, and opportunities they need to reach and succeed in the jobs of tomorrow. Career Readiness, which establishes that students need to acquire knowledge, skills and experiences in three domains — i.e. academic, work readiness and personal/social domains, to be ready for their futures. Develop 21st century skills including digital and financial literacy.

There are 16 different career areas, with the majority of occupations split into 16 different clusters.

In 57 of 108 countries, more than half of the workforce have jobs not matching their level of education. This situation is called skills mismatch. Seventy-two percent of this skills mismatch is attributed to under-education. In fact, hundreds of millions of young people find themselves unemployed and unemployable, lacking the right skills to take up the jobs available. The skills mismatch is a global challenge, and a lack of education is the root.
